i have a very complicated relationship with friedrich holderlin. i love him but i’ve been trying to write this paper for 7 and a half hours and i haven’t written anything.

it’s kind of like how his novel hyperion is based on how you fall in love or find someone who totally understands your life and you have awesome philosophical discussions and hang out in the woods together all the time, but then they die and you wander aimlessly searching for yourself and hate cities and fantasize about ancient athens. which just isn’t really helpful.

also hilarious to watch my hardcore atheist professor trying to say that he wasn’t reeeeally influenced by religion, even though he went to seminary school and mentions god in every poem ever.
